Who can request the marriage certificate / extract / multilingual extract / full copy of the marriage certificate?
The marriage certificate can be requested by anyone, provided that they know the personal data of at least one of the two spouses, the marriage data and, provided that the marriage was registered in an Italian municipality.
The full copy of the marriage certificate, the marriage extract and the multilingual marriage extract, on the other hand, can be issued only to the person directly concerned, or to a relative, or in any case to a person who has a legally relevant interest. The full copy of the marriage certificate can be issued to anyone who has an interest, without motivation or special delegation, only after 70 years from the formation of the marriage certificate.

To request a marriage certificate/extract/multilingual extract/full copy of the marriage certificate, you only need to fill out the form by entering the following information:

- Wedding date;
- Place of wedding celebration;
May not contain
- Information on the property regime chosen by husband and wife (communion/separation of assets);
- Divorce;
- Annulment
The only difference with the “Italian” marriage certificate is that the multilingual certificate is drawn up by the municipality according to a “standard” model, valid and recognized in all countries that have signed the Vienna Convention of '76, namely: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Germany, Croatia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey. It does not require translation.
NB In order to legalize the document, the Marriage Extract and Multilingual Marriage Extract can be apostilled by the Prefecture competent for the territory. What does the full copy of the marriage certificate contain?
The full copy of the marriage certificate is the photocopy of the original marriage certificate drawn up directly at the time of the wedding and sent to the civil registrar of the municipality of the marriage. The data contained in the full copy of the marriage certificate are:
- Personal details of the declarant (registrar who celebrated the marriage/ minister of worship who celebrated the marriage)
- General information on wedding witnesses;
- General information about the spouses;
- Residence of the spouses;
- Citizenship of spouses and witnesses;
- Assets chosen by the spouses;
- Date of publications posted in the town hall;
- Marriage authorization decree;
- the reading of articles 143, 144 and 147 of the civil code;
- The declaration made by the spouses of their desire to take each other as husband and wife;
- Place where the marriage was celebrated (church/town hall);
- Time at which the marriage was celebrated;
- Possible termination of marriage (divorce or annulment).
